Transparency about what SebRea is and what it isn't.
What is SebRea?
SebRea is a free educational tool designed to help people with seborrheic dermatitis-prone or Malassezia-prone skin understand the ingredients in their skincare, haircare, and food. It allows you to paste an ingredient list and quickly see which ingredients may be worth paying attention to.
Why SebRea exists
SebRea started from my own experience with seborrheic dermatitis. For months, I went through trial and error trying to understand what was helping, what was making things worse, and why product labels were so difficult to interpret. The condition affected more than just my scalp and skin. It affected my confidence, my mood, and the way I moved through daily life.
What made it harder was the lack of clear, practical information. People with seborrheic dermatitis often end up piecing together advice from forums, product labels, trial-and-error routines, and others who have gone through the same thing. Over time, I realized that the people who understand sebderm best are often the people who have lived through it themselves.
SebRea was created to give back to that community. It is meant to make ingredient review more accessible, transparent, and practical, so people can make more informed choices without feeling alone in the process.

How SebRea classifies ingredients
SebRea uses a simple educational classification system. First it checks whether an ingredient appears directly in the built-in database. If not, it checks common ingredient aliases. If there is still no match, SebRea uses broad category rules to flag ingredient names that contain terms commonly associated with oils, fatty acids, esters, waxes, humectants, silicones, or botanical extracts.
Evidence and transparency
SebRea is designed to be transparent. Ingredient and food classifications are based on a mixture of ingredient-category rules, public product-label logic, and sebderm-focused user tracking priorities. Future versions will include a source library so users can see why specific ingredients are classified a certain way.
